Question About Election Integrity Being Ignored
President Donald Trump's announced that his administration has declassified more than 10 million pages of intelligence documents containing evidence that Chinese operatives obtained the identities of approximately 220 million registered American voters after breaching voter registration databases, that intelligence agencies concealed the breach from elected leaders for years, and that foreign governments developed methods to compromise election systems used around the world. He also cited Department of Homeland Security findings identifying hundreds of thousands of non-citizens registered across multiple states. “If elections officials, once we gave them the information, they need to secure their elections, and they chose not to; then those individuals will also be held accountable,” said Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin. “By fines, by penalties, and even depending upon how far it goes, prison time.”
Nevada is no stranger to the debate over election integrity, yet state officials continue to insist Nevada's elections are secure. Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar points to significant improvements made since 2020, including a new statewide voter registration management system and updated voting equipment.
Attorney General Aaron Ford has repeatedly argued that courts, election officials, and independent reviews reject allegations of widespread election fraud. But recent events demonstrate that Nevada election administration is flawed.
U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen recently demanded a U.S. Postal Service investigation after 34 mail ballots were reportedly returned as undeliverable, including 32 ballots in Lyon County and two in Douglas County. Their letter acknowledged that voters must have confidence that ballots are delivered as required under federal law. If election officials welcome investigations into mail delivery problems, they should be equally willing to welcome independent review of voter registration accuracy, cybersecurity, and election administration whenever legitimate questions arise.
Every election cycle reveals vulnerabilities ranging from outdated voter rolls and cybersecurity threats to administrative errors and mail delivery failures.
Transparency should not be viewed as a partisan demand. Republicans, Democrats, and non-partisans all have an equal stake in ensuring elections are conducted fairly, accurately, and securely. Nevada Voters have demanded Voter ID by over 70%, underlining the current thought that Nevada elections are not secure.
Nevada elected officials should not fear transparency. They should demand it, but instead Attorney General Aaron Ford denies that anything is wrong. “Our elections have systems in place to ensure that only eligible people vote and attempts to vote fraudulently can be detected and prosecuted," Ford said.
In early 2026, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) requested access to voter registration records to enforce the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA), warning state election officials that they could face legal consequences if they knowingly failed to maintain accurate voter lists as required under federal law.
Voter rolls should be regularly updated to remove deceased voters, duplicate registrations, voters who have moved, and individuals who are not legally eligible to vote. This includes addressing non-citizen registrations in Nevada to avoid New Jersey type problems.
Several states resisted the requests, including California, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Nevada. Multiple lawsuits followed. Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar and Attorney General Aaron Ford both strongly opposed the requests and rejected claims that the federal government had identified large numbers of non-citizens on Nevada's voter rolls. Public confidence is strengthened not by asking citizens to simply trust government officials but by allowing independent audits to examine and verify voter registration rolls.
If election officials are confident in the integrity of our elections, why resist greater transparency and independent review?
Federal law requires states to maintain accurate voter registration rolls. When the Department of Justice believes those requirements may not be met, asking questions is not an attack; it is part of enforcing federal law. Voter rolls require constant maintenance. Administrative errors occur. Technology evolves. These realities make oversight a necessity.
The concern is that every request for additional review, outside verification, or independent examination is increasingly portrayed as “election denial” before the facts are even examined.
Recent events demonstrate why vigilance remains necessary.
Truth is not served by suppressing questions. It is served by answering them.
Nevadans deserve evidence instead of platitudes, transparency instead of secrecy, and accountability instead of political talking points.
Truth has nothing to fear from investigation.
